Top 17 Best PS4 Games RPG Recommended to Play

By J K October 11, 2021

What are the best PS4 games RPG Categorized? The PlayStation 4 has a large library of role-playing games. There's something for everyone, from MMOs and open world epics to specialized Japanese RPGs (or JRPGs) and traditional text-based adventures.

It's a broad genre in which East meets West, and there are many variations on the theme. However, as with anything, some games are better than others, so we've created a list of the top PS4 RPGs.

List of The Best PS4 Games RPG Categorized

Here is a list of the best PS4 Games RPG Categorized we have compiled for you.

1. The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt

The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt

The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt will be the benchmark against which all future RPGs will be compared, and we don't think it'll be beaten for a long time. CD Projekt Red's masterpiece is all killer and no filler, using its enormous open world as startlingly well-realised stage decoration rather than a map that houses a tiresome amount of objective markers.

Side quests are just as detailed as the main story, and your decisions will have far-reaching consequences. You may complete the RPG package by adding two expansions that are better than most full games.

2. Persona 5 Royal

Persona 5 Royal

Persona 5 Royal, the best Japanese RPG on PS4, just got better. Persona 5 was already a masterpiece, but this re-release, which has been massively upgraded and enlarged, is Persona perfection.

It's an absolutely flawless video game, balancing parts of ordinary life simulation with great turn-based fighting and a ton of fun dungeon exploring. Exceptionally well-balanced, sophisticated, and possibly the most stylish game ever made.

3. Dragon Quest XI S: Echoes of an Elusive Age

Dragon Quest XI S: Echoes of an Elusive Age

Dragon Quest XI is arguably the best Dragon Quest game ever made, and Dragon Quest XI S is the best way to play it, with added plot aspects and a slew of other enhancements. The sense of adventure is fantastic, but the characters are the real stars of the show.

This is the most detailed a Dragon Quest party has ever been, and it shows in their personalities. It's also a beautiful game to look at, with plenty of beautiful settings to explore. It's the best conventional JRPG experience on PS4 by a long by. It's superbly made, humorous, and amazingly engaging.

4. Monster Hunter World: Iceborne

Monster Hunter is returning on home consoles, and it's really fantastic. Monster Hunter: World combines the series' incredibly addictive gameplay loop into a highly polished and detailed action RPG. You're busy hunting beasts and getting stuck into the game's satisfyingly substantial combat system when you're not watching in wonder as two gigantic monsters clash over territory.

Add in some extremely gratifying co-op objectives, and you've got a game that never stops rewarding, especially now that the Iceborne update has revitalized the entire experience and polished it off with a fantastic endgame.

5. Bloodborne

Bloodborne's warped take on the Cthulhu legends is destined to become one of the PS4 generation's most famous games, pitting flawless combat against a huge gothic landscape.

The cobblestone streets of Yharnam are a character in and of itself, as Victorian districts fold and overlap, providing the backdrop for some of the best conflicts on any platform. One of Sony's most fascinating new series, this is a tour de force in both aesthetic direction and game design.

6. Mass Effect Legendary Edition

Top 17 Best PS4 Games RPG Recommended to Play

Mass Effect Legendary Edition finally delivers us what we've always wanted: a remastered collection of the original Mass Effect trilogy, after a whole generation of waiting. Commander Shepard's sci-fi adventures are still entertaining, with a cast of interesting characters carrying three games' worth of missions.

Legendary Edition does an excellent job of polishing the original Mass Effect while also adding a pleasant sheen to its sequels. A must-read for anyone interested in immersing themselves in a cosmic adventure.

7. Diablo III: Reaper of Souls - Ultimate Evil Edition

Top 17 Best PS4 Games RPG Recommended to Play

Nothing compares to Diablo III: Reaper of Souls - Ultimate Evil Edition in terms of character advancement and loot. It's a blast whether you're playing with buddies or alone, as it's an action RPG with what seems like a limitless amount of things to do. It's one of the tightest PS4 games, and it's supremely polished and intuitive.

8. Final Fantasy XIV Online: A Realm Reborn

Nothing compares to the elegance and refinement of Final Fantasy XIV Online: A Realm Reborn when it comes to PS4 MMOs. It's a massive RPG with a gorgeous setting, top-notch gameplay, and a stunning soundtrack that you can lose yourself in for days on end, with or without friends.

Furthermore, various extensions have both enhanced and contributed to the total package, resulting in a genuinely life-absorbing experience.

9. Dark Souls III

Even though the studio's punishing formula was old hat by the time Dark Souls III was released, the studio's monopoly on superb level design remained as strong as ever.

This uber-polished action RPG, the third in the trilogy, has the same breathtaking art and deliberate combat as its predecessors, but it's the quantity of fanservice that will most thrill those who've prayed at the sun's altar since the series' inception.

10. Tales of Arise

Tales of Arise is one of the most powerful Tales games released thus far. It's a big adventure set in a beautiful world, with an engaging tale, sympathetic characters, and a fantastic fighting system to back it up.

Arise is a much-needed modernization of the Tales format in many aspects, but it retains its original Japanese RPG feel at the same time. It's a perfectly balanced game, and one of the best JRPGs on PS4, going from town to town, facing monsters out in the field, and exploring excellent endgame content.

11. Horizon: Zero Dawn

Horizon: Zero Dawn

The first effort at an open world RPG by Guerrilla Games has left genre veterans feeling out of touch. Horizon: Zero Dawn may lack inventiveness in some aspects of its design, but it executes its ideas so well that it can be forgiven for not reinventing the post-apocalyptic wheel.

Aloy's adventure is a mysterious one, spanning the contemporary climate's tribal politics all the way back to the extinction of mankind as we know it. A compact story is connected together by combat suited for a third-person action game, and it's all wrapped up in a sleek presentation that makes it feel like a more linear release.

12. Final Fantasy XII: The Zodiac Age

Final Fantasy XII, one of the PS2's swansongs, has been painstakingly recreated as The Zodiac Age on PS4. It's a terrific experience from beginning to end, and it's one of Square's best - and that's saying a lot. Its combat system may take some getting accustomed to, but the depth it provides — thanks in part to a fantastic job system — is something few other Final Fantasy games can match.

13. Yakuza: Kiwami 2

The PS2-era story in Yakuza: Kiwami 2 may not be on the same level as Yakuza 6's magnificent tale, but it's still incredibly dramatic, and the game is packed with brilliant distractions.

Kiwami 2 is the most content-dense Yakuza game on PS4, continuously luring you into its neon-lit universe for hours on end. Furthermore, in this installment, the Dragon Engine has been further developed, making it the best-looking title in the series thus far.

14. Dragon's Dogma: Dark Arisen

Dragon's Dogma: Dark Arisen is one of the best action RPGs of all time, and it's better than ever on PS4, as its last-gen frame rate difficulties are addressed.

The fighting is still leagues ahead of practically anything else in the genre, and subtle storytelling blends with a dark fantasy world to create an intriguing experience. A game that deserves considerably more appreciation than most people are willing to give it.

15. Judgment

Judgment

Judgment is a Yakuza spin-off that follows the same fundamental gameplay framework as SEGA's crime-themed series, but with a great detective twist. You play as Takayuki Yagami, a tough private detective who follows leads (literally), examines evidence, and interrogates suspects.

Judgment is another victory for Yakuza Studio, with a captivating tale and a cast of memorable characters, and its totally autonomous narrative serves as a good introduction to the genre for newcomers.

16. The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim - Special Edition

Skyrim returns to the PlayStation Nation with the rebuilt and improved Special Edition on PS4, which was originally a technical mess on PS3. This is the definitive way to play one of Bethesda's best games on a Sony system, with mod compatibility and all of the original game's downloadable DLC.

The region of Skyrim, which is incredibly rich and unforgettable, is still one of the best open worlds that video games have to offer. The only things holding this re-release back are bugs and minor performance concerns. Aside from that, it's a classic adventure.

17. Final Fantasy VII Remake

Square Enix was the one that pulled it off. It did, in fact, remake Final Fantasy VII, and the outcome isn't entirely bad. In truth, Final Fantasy VII Remake is an excellent action role-playing game.

It may not cover the entire story of the original, but it considerably expands on the Midgar arc's characters, concepts, and plot points. Its crowning achievement is its brilliant combat, which combines real-time movement and action with command menus that pause time. It's amazing how it feels like the growth of Final Fantasy's traditional Active Time Battle system. What an incredible time to be alive.
