Ace Combat 8: Wings of Theve is the long-awaited return of Bandai Namco's legendary flight shooting series and the first new mainline Ace Combat in seven years. Developed by Project Aces (Bandai Namco Aces) and directed by series veteran Kazutoki Kono, it marks the franchise's 30th anniversary with its biggest skies, its most cinematic story and its largest online mode yet. The story returns to the Strangereal universe in 2029, ten years after Ace Combat 7: Skies Unknown. The Republic of Sotoa has overrun the Federation of Central Usea (FCU), and what is left of the FCU Navy fights on from the ageing aircraft carrier Endurance. Aboard the ship you fly alongside Jan "Rex" Cope, the famous ace known as the Wings of Theve. But the legend is not quite what it seems, and when Cope falls in battle, it's up to you to take his callsign, lead Joker Flight and become the hero the FCU needs.

Aerial Warfare in Living Skies

Built in Unreal Engine 5, Wings of Theve introduces Cloudly, a new weather technology that creates dynamic, multi-layered cloudscapes that actually affect combat. Track enemies by their contrails and engine smoke, hide in cloud cover and adapt to changing conditions mid-mission. For the first time, aircraft, carriers and environments are built at true 1:1 scale across much larger maps, while reworked handling and a damage model that lets you hit enemy planes anywhere make every dogfight a tense, high-speed chase.

Lead Your Squadron, From Cockpit to Carrier

As leader of Joker Flight, you can command your wingmen to concentrate fire, spread out or provide cover, adding real tactics to every sortie. Choose from more than 30 aircraft across four categories, pick your loadout and take on dogfights, ground strikes and massive superweapon battles across a campaign of around 30 missions. Between sorties, story scenes play out in first person aboard the Endurance, letting you bond with your squad, and your performance in the air can affect who survives the war.

Ace Combat Online

Wings of Theve includes Ace Combat Online, the most expansive multiplayer mode in the franchise's history. Create your own mercenary pilot, hang out with other pilots in a customisable Air Base hub and team up for co-op missions against returning fan-favourite superweapons or go head-to-head in competitive dogfights with up to 8 players online. A PlayStation Plus membership is required for online play.
